How to Boost Your Child's Focus- Part 2

April 25, 20252 min read

In Part 2 in this blog series "Tips to Boost Your Child's Focus" we will give clear action steps to help your kids build their concentration muscles. The ability to concentrate and sustain attention is crucially important for our children, because it helps kids learn and improve, which leads to self-confidence and positive self-esteem.

As your child grows, so does their brain 🧠 especially the part called the prefrontal cortex (PFC). This area is like the brain’s “control center,” helping with things like making good choices, managing emotions, paying attention, and solving problems. Here are our first three simple ways you can support your child’s PFC and overall brain health:

1. Keep Them Moving – Regular Exercise 🏃‍♂️‍➡️

Kids are built to move, and it turns out that exercise isn’t just good for their bodies—it’s great for their brains, too. Activities like running, biking, swimming, or martial arts can actually help the prefrontal cortex grow and work better. Exercise boosts memory, focus, and helps your child feel more calm and confident. Try to make physical activity part of your family’s daily routine. Even a walk around the block or playing tag in the yard can make a difference.

2. Prioritize Good Sleep 😴

A well-rested brain is a happy brain. Kids need consistent sleep to help their brain grow and stay healthy. When your child doesn’t get enough sleep, it becomes harder for them to make good decisions, stay focused, and stay calm. ✅ Set up a regular bedtime routine with calming activities like reading or dimming the lights. Try to keep sleep and wake times consistent, even on weekends.

3. Feed Their Brain the Right Fuel 🧠

What your child eats matters for brain health, too. 🐟 Foods rich in omega-3 fats (like fish, walnuts, or flax seeds), colorful fruits and veggies🥦 , and B vitamins (found in whole grains and leafy greens) help the PFC work its best. 🚫 Avoid too many processed snacks or sugary drinks, which can affect mood and focus. Try offering fun, healthy snacks like apple slices with peanut butter or a smoothie packed with fruits and veggies. Remember, change takes time and YOUR ability to stick to the new habit will help your child adjust.
